The Nursery Class

Our nursery class, whilst in an attractive purpose-built separate building, is very much part of our school. We first allocate a certain number of places to children with special needs, then to brothers and sisters of children in our school and lastly to those who live nearest to the school.

What do children learn in the nursery?

The children are involved in most of our whole-school activities. The experienced staff plan a curriculum which emphasises early literacy, numeracy and the development of personal and social skills - this provides a foundation for later learning experiences. We want children to feel secure, valued and confident so that learning is pleasurable and rewarding.

How can parents help?

We believe that when home and school work together the results can have a lasting effect on children's achievements. Therefore we want parents to feel welcome to join us on many occasions. Parents are invited to open days, meetings, social events, curriculum evenings and to more personal discussions about their own child's progress. Before they join us we visit the children at home. Then when they do start we allow time to talk with you and time for them to adjust and feel secure. Children benefit a great deal from time spent in our nursery class - we value this contribution to their early learning and we are sure you will too.
